Alex Kreitman - Stealing signs

This sports blog will discuss North Carolina and national topics.

November 26-30

The National Football League suffered a tremendous and devastating loss Tuesday morning. Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, 24, died after sustaining a gun shot wound to the leg early Monday morning.Taylor’s Miami area home was broken into by an intruder early Monday and two gun shots were fired into his bedroom. One hit Taylor in the leg which damaged an artery and caused significant blood loss. Taylor’s girlfriend and 1-year-old daughter were also in the home but were not harmed.

The break-in was the second in eight days at Taylor’s home. The first came last week and was reported after a window was left open and several draws were rummaged through. A kitchen knife was also left on the bed.

Taylor’s murder is a tragic event and the entire league and Redskins organization has suffered an emotional sting. My heart goes out to Taylor’s family and his Redskins teammates. It always seems unfair to me when someone so young with so much left in their future is taken from us so tragically.

Police are investigating both break-ins and hopefully we’ll see justice after this horrible tragedy.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are overrated. I know you’re probably thinking, before I even say a word, that the weather conditions in Pittsburgh were awful and that played a large part in the Steelers’ slim 3-0 victory against the lowly Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

But let’s think of this. The Steelers are known for their smash mouth style of play both in their running attack and defense. But we didn’t see any of that last night; we just saw a sloppy and boring game. The slop they played in should’ve been perfect for their football style.

Miami is now 0-11 and at one point a few weeks ago people talked about Pittsburgh being New England’s last big challenge. Well if they can only muster 3 points against a winless team then they don’t even deserve to be in the playoffs.

Leaving the NFL I’ll switch gears to baseball. The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins are having discussions about Johan Santana. I obviously understand why the Yankees want Santana, he’s been one of the best pitchers in the game the last few years, but why the Twins would even consider a trade beats me.

Wasn’t it just a few years ago when the Yanks would eliminate the Twins in the playoffs what seemed like every time out? Now they’re going to trade their best player to them. That doesn’t make any sense. But with A-Rod still on board the cursed Yankees won’t win anyway, so they can have Santana.
