It’s a good time for my teams; Elon, Red Sox thrive
Well, it’s the first day of November. That seems like a good day to start a sports blog. What a week it’s been for sports on a national level and then here in North Carolina.First off, Elon University has been cooking in college football. As a proud Elon alumni, it makes me excited to see them winning and doing so well. I attended last weekend’s homecoming game against Chattanooga and it was great to see Elon on the winning side of the scoreboard. For once, Elon is doing things right in football. Their offense is passing the ball and scoring plenty of points which makes the games entertaining and fun to watch. I don’t want to jump to a premature conclusion, but it looks like the Phoenix could be playoff bound!
Around the ACC, the Big Four have games Saturday, with the biggest match up being Wake Forest at Virginia. The Demon Deacons returned to the Top 25 rankings and face Virginia coming off a loss last week, but still with an impressive 7-2 overall record. I’m taking Wake Forest in a close one.
Nationally, the Red Sox won the World Series in a sweep of the Colorado Rockies which also makes me happy, since I am originally from Boston. Red Sox nation celebrated in style, led by closer Jonathan Papelbon’s wild and highly entertaining dancing. He spent the entire parade on a flatbed truck with the music group The Dropkick Murphys letting loose. He played the guitar on a broom and shared dance moves that don’t even belong on Dancing with the Stars. But it was priceless and you should check out this link to the video from Tuesday’s parade.
And to add to the Boston excitement is an undefeated match up of the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots on Sunday. This game has been hyped all week. I just hope Tom Brady and the Pats can come through for me.
Finally, the NBA season is upon us, beginning this past Tuesday. But does anyone really care? As football season hits its stride, with high school playoffs approaching and the college season soaring to a heated finish, it seems a little premature for basketball. I guess I’ve always been one to follow a sport to the finish, and then get back into the mix of basketball. But, if the Patriots are still lingering come January, it could be a short NBA season for my viewing taste.
