Celtics come through in clutch

Sorry to disappoint, but my NASCAR blog on my first race experience will have to wait until Tuesday.

I’m really upset that I can’t write it today, but I’ve been having computer problems all day which has delayed my video editing. I’m going to put together a video of my experience from Saturday’s All-Star race in Charlotte to go with the blog. Look for that Tuesday.

pierce.jpgPlus, so much happened in sports over the weekend, that it would’ve been too difficult to touch on everything today. Sunday’s biggest sporting event was Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers. This game turned into an instant classic with the Celtics beating the Cavs to advance to the conference finals against the Detroit Pistons.

LeBron James and Paul Pierce went head-to-head, each scoring over 40 points. James finished with 45 and Pierce had 41. The two carried their respective teams and turned in two of the most clutch NBA performances in recent history.

I of course spent most of the game yelling at the TV, mostly for the poor officiating. I was carrying over some of the frustration in the refs from Game 6 where they were horrible. But anyway, I was going wild right along with the crowd, cheering, booing, and the whole nine yards.

doc.JPGIt was great to see playoff basketball reach center stage in Boston again. As a kid I grew up watching the Celtics in the playoffs, obviously not for the real glory days, but I remember watching the end of Larry Bird’s career. Finally after several years of sucking, the Celtics are back.

If anyone watched the beginning of the game, ABC showed the pregame intro at TD Banknorth Garden for the Celtics players. This showed the world why the inside of the arena looks so smoky during televised Boston games. They shoot off tons of fireworks and pyrotechnics before the game and it was a wild scene. It was the first I got to see Boston’s pregame intros. I’d seen Cleveland’s all three times prior and was sick of their PA announcer yelling, “Let’s hear it for your Cleveland Cavaliers.”

Another big sporting event this weekend was the running of the Preakness. Big Brown, the Kentucky Derby winner, won the race and notched the second leg of the Triple Crown. I didn’t get to see any of the race since I was tailgating for the NASCAR race, but I was glad to hear Big Brown won.

This country watches horse racing because of the shot at a Triple Crown. People don’t care about the Belmont Stakes without a shot at the Triple Crown. They lose interest. Big Brown’s win brings tons of hype and excitement into June 7th’s Belmont Stakes and I’m excited for that.
